How do you deal with politics and news? I feel like I cannot really deal with it and at the same time I cannot ignore it.

It just stresses me and makes me sad and depressed.

Remember when the internet was supposed to improve things re: media and instead we’re in this weird siloed locked-off streaming media bizarro world

Basically the only good platform is Bandcamp

Eine Drohnen-Licht-Schau statt einem Feuerwerk...

Als guter Deutscher lehne ich das aus folgenden Gründen ab:

* Es gibt keine Langzeitstudien zur Unbedenklichkeit von Drohnen.

* Wer soll das bezahlen?

* Was ist, wenn eine Drohne abstürzt und ein Kind verletzt?

* Die Steuerung der Drohnen per Funkwellen sind für stahlungssensible Menschen eine Zumutung und ein Risiko!

* Vögel und Insekten können irritiert oder gar verletzt werden!

* Drohnen verbrauchen im Gegensatz zu Raketen Strom!

For real like Bandcamp is exactly the kind of service we *hoped* the internet would give us: “hey, people make things, they set their own price inc. free, we provide the storefront, you buy it and the money goes to the creator, you get it in a DRM-free format and can play it however you want, we just make money to keep going & improving and aren’t a VC-funded nightmare company of rampant reckless growth that will do something nightmarish and implode.”

We need more media platforms like that.

Happy new year to everyone! Keep being awesome and remember to backup your 2FA recovery codes! :)

Please help reducing waste during #36c3 and consider the following items for a more sustainable packing list, citing from the excellent list at [1]:

- reusable coffee mug
- camping cutlery or spork: the food stalls give out single-use plastic cutlery
- reusable bottle to stay hydrated (German tap water is drinking water unless specified otherwise)
- for angel work: last year's lanyard with portrait-format card holder, to reduce waste

Is there a self hosted alternative to goodreads.com? I'd really like to have such a service, maybe even federated.

The Hubble Extreme Deep Field. With the exception of 3 or so foreground stars, every object you see in this image is a galaxy.

Fun diversion, find the 3 or so stars (there's a trick to it).

PSA for bullgit.party users:

gab.com has been suspended / blocked from interacting with bullgit.party.

I'm listening to "Grimes - 4AM" on repeat, her performance at the VGA just fueled my hype! youtube.com/watch?v=Q4ZdkEiYvK

In case you missed: Grimes will voice a character in Cyberpunk2077! The Original Soundtrack will also include music from Refused, A$AP Rocky, Running the Jewels, Gazelle Twin, Ilan Rubin, Tina Guo, Nina Kravitz, and many more!

It's such a diverse music cast, I cannot wait to listen to it.

Thinking about this, I believe the algorithms that serve content and engagement are exactly why I feel so burned-out with social media. 10 years ago I could read twitter literally all day long and just enjoy it, or look at images on Instagram, but nowadays everyone shoves everything down my throat and it feels super exhausting.

Kinda like e-Mail feels exhausting due to spam and endless amounts of newsletters.

PSA: You can disable Google News on Android 8+.

1. Hold down finger on home screen and go to "Home Screen Settings"
2. Disable "Show Google App"

I've found myself looking into Google News (swipe to left on home screen) all the time and I really don't like the curated news because I ultimately get biased results, but I also couldn't stop looking into it.
